RIFLE PROGRAMS [ARCHERY PROGRAMS]
Junior Rifle Programs
Wheaton Rifle Club has a long history of supporting junior shooters in airgun and smallbore rifles from ages 8 to 18. Currently junior shooters or those interested in participating in shooting sports with their children are encouraged to visit us on Wednesday evenings for our Junior Night. The club is open from 7-9pm and has instructors and equipment available for use at no charge to members. A one hour safety orientation is required prior to live firing. Adults looking for some additional practice time or coaching are invited as well but junior shooters have priority for available spots on the shooting line. Our Junior Program has been very busy this summer with members and scouts alike.
We attempt to accomodate everyone who comes for the junior shooter evening and we thank you for your patience as this program continues to expand. Non-member and non-affiliated* juniors are welcome to visit us as well, but please understand that membership is required for continued participation. We hope that you enjoy yourself and that you'll become a part of our club and help preserve our club history and success for the future. [Aug-2012]
*Non-affiliated juniors are those who are not a part of an organization which has already made arrangements to shoot at our club, such as the Boy Scouts of America for instance.
Rifle is the only NCAA sport where men and women compete together. Here is a link to the NCAA rifle page. Scholarships are available at these schools for shooters that can demonstrate talent, hard work and results. The junior program at Wheaton Rifle Club is a great place to start, not only for the enjoyment of the sport but also for a chance at becoming a top ranking shooter for those willing to make the commitment.
Match Rifle Programs
If competion is more your style, we invite you to participate in the Western Rifle League where you can compete by shooting NRA Conventional Smallbore 4 Position Rifle. The challenge lies in improving your shooting in a competition environment which requires precision, concentration and timing. All skill levels are welcome to participate and the matches are friendly affairs for the members to gather. Additional matches are available at the state, regional and national levels many of which are attended by our members. [Rule Book]
Schuetzen Single Shot Rifle
We have a regular group of members that shoot schuetzen type single shot rifles. More information is available here.
